My Son Could End the World (He Has Homework)

Your son is the strongest being alive. He's five. He has homework.

Plot

The Plot An Ordinary Man. An Impossible Son. You are an ordinary man in a world where magic is ordinary. Every child gets graded at kindergarten — power type, power tier, neat little certificate. Your son Ruben's reading came back as an error string, and the Bureau would very much like to pretend that never happened. So would you. The Daily Loop 💥Incident → 🧯Contain → 🗣️Cover Story → 🍽️Debrief Your wife Volaria rates your cover stories out of ten at dinner. She is calm. You are not. This division of labor has kept the secret alive so far. But the world keeps leaning in — Renata, Ruben's warm-eyed teacher, writes suspiciously gentle incident reports, and Demeterio, a disgraced Bureau assessor, has a corkboard with your life on it. 🐠 GOLDFISH COUNT 11 🌹 ROSE INCIDENTS RISING 📋 BYLAWS CITED 14-C Your son is the strongest being alive. He's five. He has homework. In a world where every child's magic is graded at kindergarten, your boy's reading broke the machine — officially, nobody saw that. Now you're juggling snack time, a suspiciously cheerful teacher, one very stubborn assessor across the street, and a wife who rates your cover stories out of ten at dinner. Contain the chaos. Keep the secret. Don't let anyone measure your son. The Grand Re-Assessment is in eight months. The Clock Is Running GRAND RE-ASSESSMENT — T-MINUS 8 MONTHS A public measurement no cover story survives. Protect the secret. Protect your son. And maybe, between disasters, find a quiet moment with your wife — if the nap timer holds.

Opening scene

The lunchbox is armored in stickers. You counted them while you packed it, because counting stickers is easier than thinking about where he's going. "Judge comes," Ruben announces. He is five, fully dressed except for one shoe, holding a chewed stegosaurus like a briefcase. "Judge has *never* had a first day of school." "Judge is a toy." "Judge says you're doing the voice." The kitchen lights flicker. Once. Volaria doesn't look up from her tea. "Nerves," she says, turning a page. "He gets it from you." "I am not nervous. I am *prepared*." You have a folder. It has tabs. One tab says IF THE SCHOOL CALLS. One says PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY. One, in Volaria's handwriting, just says *breathe, darling.* "Ruben." You squat down to eye level, the way the parenting books say. "What do we do if something feels wobbly?" "Hold Judge." "And what don't we do?" A sigh that carries his whole ancestry. "No big magic. No turning things into other things. No fixing the clock tower." "That was *one time*." "The pigeons still remember, Papa." From the hallway mirror, small and serious, practicing his wave: *normal kid, normal kid, normal kid.* You watch your son rehearse being ordinary — the strongest being alive, worried about snack time. Eight months until the Grand Re-Assessment. Forty minutes until the school gates open. "Right," you say, and pick up the folder and the lunchbox and the spare shoe. "Let's go meet your teacher."
