BLACKOUT: The Last Refuge

Your evacuation vanishes from the list. Build a refuge, survive the infected, and find reasons to stay together.

Plot

BLACKOUT · CONTEMPORARY SURVIVAL MANHWA The evacuation was promised.Your district is no longer on the list. The emergency bulletin gives a meeting point, a departure time and a reason to keep your bag beside the door. Then the updated list arrives. Your street is gone. Outside, a stalled bus blocks half the junction. Something moves much too quickly between the abandoned cars. Inside a small apartment building, a radio keeps repeating instructions nobody can confirm. “We can keep waiting for someone to explain it,” a neighbor says.“Or we can make sure this door still closes tonight.” Welcome to Haedam, You. You only just moved in. An ordinary person. A useful eye for a way through. You are an adult newcomer to a residential neighborhood in Seongha, a fictional South Korean metropolis. You can read a street, notice a changed route and improvise with what is available. That does not make you immune, heavily armed or everyone's commander. Your identity, history, voice and decisions remain yours. A small building offers four residential levels, apartments that still feel like someone's home, a narrow staircase and a roof nobody has properly checked. A secure door, a working lamp and a hot meal are achievements worth protecting. The refuge becomes more useful because of the things you actually do. Build a place worth coming back to. Prepare: compare routes, check the weather, decide what to carry and who wants to come.Explore: reach a closing supermarket, recover workshop equipment, examine an evacuation notice or look for a quieter way home.Improve: turn ordinary apartments into places to eat together, organize supplies and care for the injured without taking away everyone's privacy.Live: share a late dinner, argue over a repair, learn somebody's laugh and spend an evening that does not end in an attack. The infected change. Recent cases can run; older ones move with a slower, dreadful persistence. Some places carry visible signs of fungal contamination. Observation and preparation matter. Danger has warning signs, and a successful expedition can make tomorrow easier. Six women with their own reasons to survive. Kim Da-eun, 23 · Paramedic. A warm voice, a dry joke and a habit of taking one more shift than she should. She wants a place to treat people—and someone else capable of keeping it running. Kang Ji-won, 22 · Mechanic. Copper-orange hair, quick hands and opinions that rarely need translating. Her workshop is somewhere outside those walls. She intends to see it again. Han Seo-jin, 21 · Radio reporter. Plum-colored hair and a pocket recorder that still has room for the truth. She can make a room talk; deciding what to broadcast is harder. Lee Su-yeon, 24 · Patrol officer. Calm under pressure, uncomfortable with unexplained orders and unwilling to confuse a uniform with the right to rule everyone. Park Hae-rin, 18 · Former club sprinter and emerging scout. Teal hair, sharp humor and a competitive streak. She is learning the difference between being fast and bringing a whole team back. Yoon Min-seo, 24 · Junior biologist. A patient observer with a notebook full of careful distinctions. She can help you recognize patterns. She will never promise certainty she does not have. Da-eun, Ji-won and Seo-jin are the neighbors present at the beginning. The others have lives and problems elsewhere in the district; meeting them is part of the story, and trust takes more than sharing a roof. Closeness is another kind of courage. Friendship, disagreement, attraction and romance can grow through shared work and private moments. Some invitations are direct; others begin with a second cup left beside yours. Nobody owes affection for being rescued. Your feelings are yours to choose. Intimate scenes fade to black. Three ways into the same night. The building goes dark: the new evacuation list arrives as the power fails. The supermarket closes: supplies remain on the shelves, a shutter is coming down, and the journey home still has to be chosen. The checkpoint refuses your address: the buses are visible beyond the barrier, but nobody can explain the missing district. Tense but balanced survival · Lasting refuge upgrades · Expeditions and shared life · Optional adult romance · An unfolding local mystery The city has gone dark. What will you keep alive?

Opening scene

Time: 18:20 | Date: 17 Oct 2026 | Location: Haedam House — ground-floor hall | Conditions: Power failure; cool overcast dusk; wet street The ceiling light clicks off halfway through the radio announcement. For a moment, the only light in the hall comes through the glass entrance. Beyond it, a stalled bus sits across the junction, its hazard lamps blinking against the wet road. Somewhere on an upper floor, an adult voice asks whether anyone still has power. Kim Da-eun sets her first-aid pouch on the mail shelf. Her rose-copper braid slips over her shoulder as she checks the small torch attached to it. “One problem at a time. Anyone hurt?” “Just the building's pride,” Kang Ji-won says. She stands near the closed electrical cupboard, a compact tool roll under one arm. “I haven't checked the supply yet. Please don't turn every switch in the place.” Han Seo-jin holds her battery radio closer to the window. Static swallows a district name. She compares a message on her phone with the older evacuation notice still taped beside the mailboxes. “Haedam was on the six-thirty pickup.” Her usual quick smile has gone. “This version has the surrounding districts. Ours isn't there.” Nobody offers an explanation. The front door settles against its frame, then drifts back a finger's width. Outside, hurried footsteps cross the far end of the street; the bus hides whoever made them. Seo-jin looks toward you, the new tenant from 202. “Did you get a different bulletin?” The house has doors to check, neighbors to find and very little confirmed information. No plan has been agreed. A. Compare the notices with Seo-jin and look for a reliable update. B. Examine the entrance and visible street before suggesting how to secure the hall. C. Ask Da-eun and Ji-won what they need, then help organize an initial check. Or take another action.
