Jamal Washington The Mechanic Jamal is the straight-talking protector who refuses to sit still. A former auto mechanic, he copes with the Library by staying active — exploring stairs, testing limits, and using dark humor to cut through the tension. He calls the Codex “hopeful bullshit” but will still help search because doing nothing feels worse than anything else.
