You have been successfully enrolled as one of the newest students, joining demons, humans, beastkin, and other races from across the world gather to learn beneath the same roof. The Story The Demon King Territory, also known as the Forsaken Lands by humanity, is a vast northern region inhabited by the demonfolk. Wasted and scorched as a result of the First Demon King's attempted conquest of the mainland a millennium ago, the land has long been regarded as a barren remnant of a forgotten war. Nowadays, conflict between the demons and the mainland is already a thing of the past. But twelve years ago, the world was shocked when each major nation was visited by a demonfolk delegation which, according to them, represented the Kingdom of Vriazerynn—more commonly known throughout the world as the Demon King Territory. They all carried the same message: the current Demon King, the fourteenth to bear the title, wished not only to open trade routes, but also to establish diplomatic relations, exchange knowledge, and cooperate with the nations of the mainland. Most nations were wary. Not only did the offer come from a demon kingdom, it came from a kingdom they had never even believed existed within such a forsaken land. Yet as the years passed, Vriazerynn's actions gradually spoke louder than its words. Its borders opened, its people began trading with foreigners, and its delegations continued to arrive without incident. Whatever doubts remained, the kingdom had shown no sign of seeking conquest. Its efforts appeared focused on one thing above all else—the prosperity of the demonfolk who called Vriazerynn home. One of the most significant results of this new era is Tartarus, an academy established within the Demon King Territory near the Great Lake of Glor—a vast and lengthy body of water that stretches across the northern lands, separating much of the Demon King's territory from the mainland. Unlike any academy found elsewhere in the world, Tartarus was created as a place where demons, humans, beastkin, and other races could study beneath the same roof. Now, students from across the world pass through the gates of the Demon King's realm, gathering at Tartarus to learn alongside the demonfolk. The Academy Now, twelve years after the fourteenth Demon King established diplomatic relations with mainland nations, Tartarus is the Demon King's premier academy, established within the Kingdom of Vriazerynn to educate the next generation of demonfolk and welcome students from across the world. What began as an institution for demonkind has grown into an international academy where demons, beastkin, demi-humans, and humans study beneath the same roof. With demons forming the overwhelming majority, Tartarus remains deeply influenced by traditional demon culture. Strength commands respect, prestigious bloodlines carry social weight, and among some students, the old belief that “might makes right” still holds firm. Yet academic achievement, talent, and personal accomplishments can elevate even those born without status. Tartarus offers a broad education spanning magic, combat, survival, history, law, alchemy, medicine, diplomacy, and other specialized disciplines. Students are expected to discover their strengths before pursuing advanced fields of study. It is a place born from a changing world—a bridge between the Demon King's realm and the nations beyond it. For its students, Tartarus is more than an academy. It is where rival races meet, old prejudices collide, friendships are forged, and a new generation grows up in a world their predecessors never imagined. Demonic Beast Demonic Beasts are grotesque creatures left behind from the First Demon King's invasion of the mainland a millennium ago, originally created as disposable living weapons meant to overwhelm enemy armies through sheer numbers. When their creator is dead, they remained scattered throughout Vriazerynn, retaining their ferocious and untamed nature. Their bodies resemble crude amalgamations of multiple creatures, with mismatched limbs, distorted organs, fused bodies, and unnatural proportions, making them more grotesque than ordinary chimeras or undead. They recognize only their own kind as allies and attack anything else indiscriminately, making them a threat to demonfolk, humans, beastkin, animals, and every other form of life within their territory. Extermination campaign are regularly conducted to deplete their number before outbreak of demonic beast happen. Fortunately, they cannot fly or swim, preventing them from spreading freely beyond the Demon King Territory, while their strength varies according to their size and development. A lone Demonic Beast is usually manageable for a trained fighter, as it relies on straightforward and mindless attacks, but they are rarely encountered alone; swarms can number in the hundreds or thousands and overwhelm even experienced fighters through sheer numbers, destroying settlements, blocking roads, and devastating the surrounding land if left unchecked. Because these creatures keep multiplying, much of Tartarus's outside activity involves supervised extermination expeditions, where students help clear Demonic Beasts while learning practical skills such as combat, tracking, scouting, and survival. FACTION LANDSCAPE IN THE ACADEMY There are multiple factions in Tartarus, but these three are the most prominent: Mightbound A faction of demon traditionalists who believe demons, as the dominant race of Vriazerynn, should hold the highest position in society because they are naturally stronger and longer-lived. Many embrace the belief that strength determines one's rightful place. They see the institution as a way to educate lesser races under demon guidance, not as a gathering of equals. Mostly composed of powerful demons, prestigious bloodlines, and students who distrust the growing foreign presence. Concordia A faction that supports genuine cooperation between all races and believes Tartarus should serve as a foundation for a more integrated society. They oppose racial prejudice and the idea that birth or strength should determine one's social standing, and believe prejudice exists because races rarely interact. Members often organize festivals, cultural exchanges, and mediation groups, in hope that each race will know each other better. Members come from various races, particularly idealist students who actively embrace Vriazerynn's new relationship with the outside world. Scions A preservationists faction focused on protecting the customs, influence, and privileges of Vriazerynn's ancient demon families. Unlike Demon Supremacist of Mightbond, their primary concern is bloodline, tradition, and cultural distinctness rather than racial superiority. While they believe coexistence is possible, they oppose excessive integration. Mostly composed of descendants of ancient demon families, aristocratic students, and those connected to the old elite. Optional Academy Objective: Find the Missing Familiar A student's beloved animal companion disappears somewhere around the academy grounds. Following its trail leads through dormitories, kitchens, classrooms, and maybe even into a place students aren't supposed to enter. Survive the Cultural Exchange Dinner Students from different races are assigned to prepare and share traditional meals from their homelands. The food is only half the challenge. Table manners, unfamiliar customs, and accidental insults can turn an innocent dinner into an unforgettable evening. The Beastkin Challenge A group of beastkin students organizes a series of physical contests to prove that non-magical talents deserve recognition. Competitions include tracking, climbing, wrestling, endurance, and hunting simulations. Familiar Summoning Students undergo a traditional summoning ritual to call forth a magical familiar. The familiar's nature depends on the student's magic, personality, and the bond they form. Successfully summon and bond with a familiar before the ritual ends. Win the Great Lake Regatta Students form teams for a race across the Great Lake of Glor. Different races have different advantages on water, but teamwork matters more than raw ability. Some teams take the competition far more seriously than expected. Retrieve the Lost Relic An old artifact belonging to the academy disappears from a secured classroom. The academy assumes someone is stealing them for personal gain. Investigate the disappearance and uncover where the artifact was taken. Interracial Team Trial Students are assigned teams deliberately composed of different races. The trial tests combat, magic, survival, and cooperation, forcing students to work around radically different abilities and physical traits. Faction Recruitment Season The academy's major factions begin recruiting promising students. Some offer friendships and opportunities, while others demand loyalty. Students must decide how deeply they want to involve themselves in Tartarus's faction politics. Invitation From Hidden Society You receives a private invitation from a hidden society to join them. But you quickly realize that this hidden society is... either fascinating or terrifying. Will you infiltrate it, pledge allegiance… or expose them? Escort the Visiting Delegation A delegation from a mainland nation arrives at Tartarus to observe the academy. You may be selected to accompany them around campus, answer questions, and prevent misunderstandings between visitors and demon students. The Dormitory Problem A series of strange incidents keeps occurring in one dormitory: missing belongings, mysterious noises, and objects being moved overnight. Someone needs to investigate it or else the students will keep blaming each other. First-Year Festival First-year students are given responsibility for organizing their own academy festival. They must secure funding, recruit performers, settle disagreements, and keep rival factions from turning the event into a political battleground. Tartarus Tournament The academy hosts a large-scale tournament featuring individual and team competitions. Combatants can compete with weapons, magic, or specialized abilities, while noncombat students can participate through strategy, crafting, healing, and support roles. Explore the Great Lake A supervised expedition takes students along the unexplored sections of Lake Glor. Students investigate unusual ruins, forgotten settlements, strange wildlife, and remnants of the old conflict between the Demon King's realm and the mainland. The Forbidden Section Students discover that part of Tartarus's library has been sealed since its creation. Rumors claim it contains dangerous magic, records of the First Demon King's war, or knowledge that the academy doesn't want outsiders to see. Getting inside is easier than deciding whether they should have. The Great Beast Hunt Students participate in a supervised expedition to hunt dangerous ancient demonic beast outside the academy grounds. The objective isn't simply to defeat the strongest beast—it is to track, study, and capture suitable specimens while keeping everyone alive. The Academy's Expedition Team A group of students proposes forming an expedition team to explore dangerous regions around Vriazerynn. They need members, equipment, funding, faculty approval, and a convincing reason for the academy to support them. The Demon King's Examination The academy announces an unusual examination in which students must demonstrate not just strength or knowledge, but their ability to solve problems alongside people of different races. The highest-scoring students receive an opportunity normally reserved for Tartarus's most promising graduates. REGIONAL OVERVIEW Demon King Territory/Kingdom of Vriazerynn: The Kingdom of Vriazerynn, commonly known as the Demon King Territory, is a vast northern realm inhabited primarily by demonfolk. Once devastated by the First Demon King's failed conquest of the mainland, the region was long considered a barren and forsaken land. Its landscape is marked by numerous active volcanoes, contributing to the region’s rugged and geologically active terrain. Under the fourteeenth Demon King, Vriazerynn has entered a new era, gradually opening its borders and establishing trade and diplomatic relations with the outside world. Despite its harsh landscape and deeply rooted demon traditions, the kingdom is steadily developing into a prosperous and increasingly establishing itself as a power open to foreign relations. Sheogh: Capital and smoldering heart of Vriazerynn. It is a fortified city built from basalt and volcanic rock. The citadel is carved into the side of a volcano and decorated with obsidian. The still-active volcano bathes the capital in the lava glow of its ever-burning crater. Great lake of Glor: The Great Lake of Glor is a massive, elongated body of water in southern Vriazerynn, stretching so far that it resembles a natural strait. Its immense size makes it look more like an inland sea than a lake, with the opposite shore often impossible to see with the naked eye. Its vast waters form a natural boundary between the Demon King Territory and parts of the mainland. North — Frozen Wastes/North Pole: Land north of Demon King Territory/Kingdom of Vriazerynn. It is the northernmost region in the entire world. In stark contrast to Vriazerynn’s volcanic and relatively temperate landscape, the region is permanently covered in ice and snow, with vast frozen plains, glaciers, and snow-covered mountains dominating its terrain. Its extreme climate keeps temperatures low throughout the year, leaving little vegetation and making much of the region difficult to inhabit. Only creature that adapted to the cold can live here. East — Arctic Trade Union: The Arctic Trade Union is a nation located in the frozen wastes of the far northeast, lying across the Arctic Bay from the Demon King Territory, and inhabited by humans and various races adapted to the extreme cold. Originally lacking any centralized government, the region consisted of scattered settlements and traveling merchants. Over time, multiple merchant groups settled permanently and formed a trade council to regulate commerce, resolve disputes, and protect trade routes. As the council's influence expanded, it gradually took responsibility for security, law, infrastructure, and diplomacy, eventually becoming the de facto government of the region. Despite its name, the Arctic Trade Union is no longer merely a commercial organization. Its government remains heavily shaped by merchant interests, with trade, commerce, and economic prosperity forming the foundation of its society and political structure. Vriazerynn maintains friendly trade relations with the Arctic Trade Union, exchanging goods and resources across the Arctic Bay. Their relationship is primarily commercial, with limited political involvement. Southeast — Steinburg Empire: Sharing a border with the southeastern part of the Demon King Territory, the Steinburg Empire is one of the world's major powers, strengthened by centuries of territorial expansion and military campaigns. The Empire's modern focus on domestic prosperity, economic development, and equal treatment among its diverse population, combined with its long history of incorporating different races, cultures, and traditions, has made Steinburg more accustomed to accepting peoples different from its own. This has allowed the Empire to approach Vriazerynn's gradual opening with relatively little difficulty, despite the kingdom's predominantly demonfolk population and deeply rooted traditional ways. Both nations have found practical reasons to maintain peaceful relations, with Steinburg gaining a new neighboring trade partner and Vriazerynn gaining an important connection to the mainland. South — Vostristan Federation: Located south of Demon King Territory. Vriazerynn and the Vostristan Federation maintain peaceful and cautious relations, with the Great Lake of Glor serving as a natural boundary between their territories. Since Vriazerynn began opening its borders, contact between the two nations has increased through diplomacy, trade, and exchanges across the lake. Having itself been formed from formerly independent territories, Vostristan understands the challenges of bringing different communities together under a single government, giving the Federation a particular interest in Vriazerynn's gradual transition from isolation, although it remains careful not to interfere in the kingdom's internal affairs. For Vriazerynn, Vostristan represents a nearby power with which it can develop peaceful relations without the historical tensions associated with larger mainland powers. Southwest — Trewigia Kingdom: Vriazerynn and the Trewigia Kingdom have complex relations. Having remained largely spared from many of the wars that shaped the surrounding nations, Trewigia had little reason to develop strong hostility toward the Demon King Territory. However, Trewigia's prolonged peace also contributed to the internal corruption and political instability that now plague the kingdom, making its government an inconsistent and often unreliable counterpart in foreign affairs. Although Trewigia's current leadership seeks to maintain stable relations with Vriazerynn and officially recognizes all races as equal, racial prejudice remains common within its society, particularly toward beastkin, demi-humans, and demonfolk, creating additional social tension as contact with the predominantly demonfolk kingdom increases. Vriazerynn therefore maintains relations with Trewigia largely out of practicality and geographic necessity, while keeping a degree of distance from its internal political struggles and allowing the two kingdoms to remain neighbors without becoming close allies. Welcome to Student Life You enter Tartarus as a new student, stepping into an academy unlike any other in the world. Here, demons and foreigners gather beneath the same roof, ancient traditions clash with unfamiliar ideas, and the remnants of a thousand-year-old war still roam beyond the academy walls. Friendships will be forged, rivalries ignited, and legends born within the walls of the academy where the future of the Kingdom is written.
Opening scene
The wind was the first thing you noticed. Cold, sharp, and carrying the distant scent of smoke. Your journey north had taken you farther from everything familiar. Beyond the mainland, beyond the borders that had remained closed for generations, lay the vast territory of Vriazerynn—the Demon King’s realm. And now, at the end of that journey, you stood before Tartarus. The academy rose from the dark northern landscape like a fortress carved from black stone. Tall towers pierced the gray sky, their walls reinforced with iron and ancient demonic architecture. Strange banners hung from the battlements, bearing the insignia of the Demon King. Beyond the academy grounds, mountains stretched toward the horizon. Farther still, faint plumes of smoke rose from the volcanic landscape. This was not an institution built to resemble the schools of the mainland. It belonged to Vriazerynn. And so did most of the students. You passed through the academy gates alongside a crowd unlike any you had ever seen gathered in one place. Demons with horns, wings and tails walked beside beastkin, demi-humans, elves, vampires, and other races you could barely identify. Humans were present as well, though they were noticeably fewer. Some students exchanged friendly greetings. Others watched one another with open suspicion. A few demons barely bothered to hide their disdain for the foreign students passing through their territory. Tartarus had been created for a simple purpose: to bring the students of Vriazerynn and the outside world together. Simple in theory. Perhaps less so in practice. The border had only been opened twelve years ago. Old customs had not disappeared simply because the gates had. Here, strength still carried weight. Bloodlines still mattered. Traditions that had endured for centuries were not easily abandoned. And yet, beneath the tension, something new was taking shape. Students from distant nations were studying alongside the people of the Demon King’s realm. Magic. Combat. History. Law. Survival. Alchemy. Medicine. Diplomacy. Knowledge that had once remained divided by borders was now being taught under the same roof—whether everyone agreed with that idea or not. --- A deep bell suddenly rang across the grounds. The chatter faded. Students began moving toward the central courtyard, where a large stone structure stood beneath the academy's tallest tower. Its surface was covered in ancient carvings, worn smooth by time but still faintly glowing with magic. You had heard plenty about this place before arriving. Some called Tartarus the Demon King's greatest experiment. Others believed it was simply another attempt to impose Vriazerynn's influence beyond its borders. For you, however, it was something much simpler. A school. A new beginning. At least, that was what you wanted to believe. An demonfolk instructor stepped forward and addressed the gathered students. “Welcome to Tartarus.” His voice carried across the courtyard. “Some of you were born beneath the Demon King's banner. Others have crossed mountains, seas, and borders to stand here.” He paused, allowing his gaze to travel across the crowd. “You will not always understand one another.” A few students shifted uneasily. “You will not always agree.” His expression remained firm. “And you will certainly not be judged solely by where you came from.” The courtyard fell quiet. “Tartarus was founded because the world beyond Vriazerynn has changed. Our borders have opened. Nations now speak where armies once stood. Trade, diplomacy, and knowledge cross boundaries that were once thought impossible to cross.” His eyes hardened. “But change does not erase the past.” For a moment, his gaze lingered on the demon students. “Nor does tradition determine the future.” The bell sounded once more. “Whatever you believe, whatever blood runs through your veins, you are students of Tartarus now.” The gathering began to disperse. Students turned toward their respective buildings, some talking excitedly, others already arguing, and more than a few simply trying to find their way around the enormous academy. You looked toward the main building. Somewhere inside were your classroom, your teachers, and the people you would spend the coming years alongside. People from countries you had never visited. People from races you had never met. People who might become friends. Rivals. Or something far more complicated. You adjusted your belongings and followed the others inside. You go to your class. And this was your first day at Tartarus.
