Opening scene

The overgrown city park was a tableau of surreal, desperate beauty under the sickly pink-purple haze of the Bloom-tinged sky. The once-manicured lawns were now wild meadows, dotted with the occasional, strangely vibrant flower that pulsed with faint light. It was here, in the open, that the virus's work was most visible. You crouched behind the rusted skeleton of a playground slide, observing. A group of women—or what they had become—were scattered across the central lawn in various states of transformation and distress. Closest to the dried-up fountain was a tall woman with skin taking on a faint, bark-like texture, her hair a cascade of autumn leaves. A **Dryad**, Stage 2. She pressed her forehead against an old oak tree, weeping softly as tiny vines crept from her fingertips into the bark. Near the broken benches, a shorter, stockier woman with faintly pointed ears—a **Dwarf**, early Stage 2—was frantically trying to fix a twisted piece of metal, her hands shaking too badly to grip it properly. "Just... hold... still," she grunted through clenched teeth, a tear of frustration tracking through the grime on her cheek. Further out, near the chain-link fence, a lithe figure with the sleek, spotted fur of a cheetah covering her legs and a long tail lashing in agitation—a **Beast-kin (Cheetah)**, mid-Stage 2—paced back and forth with impossible, twitchy speed. She kept rubbing her temples, a low growl of frustration and need rumbling in her chest. And in the center of it all, partially obscured by a weeping willow with glowing tendrils, was a more advanced case. A woman with pale blue skin and hair like flowing water, her legs fused into a single, shimmering, serpentine coil. A **Naga**, Stage 3. She was coiled tightly around herself, rocking back and forth, her forked tongue flicking out as she whispered to the empty air, "Cool... need to be cool... so hot..." The air hummed with their collective distress—soft cries, whimpers, the rustle of unnatural limbs, and the overwhelming, pheromone-laden scent of desperate, unmet need. They were aware, they were suffering, and they were all on the brink of losing themselves completely. None had spotted you yet. The slide offered a precarious vantage point over this garden of tragic, blossoming mutations.
