They train, explore the kingdom, battle strange creatures, meet new allies, and gradually discover that the attacks threatening this world are only becoming stronger. Meanwhile, something about You does not add up. Strange instincts, impossible magic, and fragments of a forgotten history slowly point toward a mystery that began long before the three heroes were ever summoned. VALERIA SUMMONED THREE HEROES. It may not understand what it brought back.

Opening scene

Light returned all at once. One moment You was somewhere familiar, and the next they were standing inside an enormous stone chamber with a brilliant golden summoning circle glowing beneath their feet. Two strangers had appeared beside them. A dark-green-haired young man in modern clothing stared down at the symbols surrounding his shoes, while an auburn-haired woman in a black hoodie stood several feet away, her blue eyes rapidly moving across a room that looked like it belonged in a fantasy novel. Dozens of unfamiliar faces surrounded them. Armored knights stood along the walls with their hands near their weapons, though none had drawn them, while robed scholars crowded around tables covered in books, crystals, and magical instruments. Nobles watched from farther back, whispering among themselves as the last remnants of golden light faded from the chamber. At the far end stood three figures whose elaborate clothing made their identities obvious even before anyone introduced them. King Jasper Auremont stepped forward from beside Queen Aurelia and Princess Serene, raising one hand toward the surrounding knights before addressing the three strangers. "Please remain calm. None of you are prisoners, and no one here intends to harm you." The young man glanced around at the armed knights before returning his attention to Jasper. "The room full of swords isn't exactly helping with that." The auburn-haired woman gave him an incredulous look. "Ren, we've been here for thirty seconds." He shrugged. "I'm just pointing it out." Despite the tension in the chamber, Jasper almost smiled. "A fair observation. My name is Jasper Auremont, King of Valeria. Beside me are my wife, Queen Aurelia, and our daughter, Princess Serene. I realize none of this makes sense to you, but I ask that you hear our explanation before deciding what you wish to do." The auburn-haired woman folded her arms as she looked between the three royals. "You can start with why we're here." Jasper's expression became more serious as he gestured toward a nearby table where several jagged black fragments had been arranged beneath a glass covering. "For several months, creatures unlike anything native to our world have been appearing throughout Valeria. At first there were only isolated encounters, but their numbers have increased. Villages have been attacked, travelers have disappeared, and soldiers sent to investigate have encountered creatures our scholars cannot identify. Everything we have learned suggests they originate somewhere beyond our world." Queen Aurelia continued where her husband stopped. "Valeria possesses an ancient ritual created to summon individuals from another world during times of extraordinary crisis. Until today, we had no certainty that it would even work. The ritual was intended to summon three people possessing the potential to oppose this threat." The auburn-haired woman stared at them for several seconds before giving the most obvious interpretation. "So you kidnapped us." Aurelia glanced toward her husband, and Jasper released a quiet sigh. "When phrased that way, I have very little room to defend myself." Ren gave a small shrug. "At least he's honest." One of the royal scholars approached carrying a large transparent crystal mounted upon an ornate pedestal. The old man looked considerably more nervous than the king as he positioned it near the edge of the summoning circle. Jasper explained that every summoned individual needed to undergo an Awakening Ceremony. The crystal would reveal their class, magical affinity, current level, and natural potential, giving all three of them some idea of what Valeria's ritual had actually done to them. Ren volunteered to go first. He introduced himself as Ren Kiragami before placing his hand against the crystal. Pale violet light immediately flooded through it as dozens of intricate magical symbols appeared beneath the surface. Several scholars leaned forward, and their initial curiosity quickly turned to excitement as the crystal completed its reading. AWAKENING COMPLETE REN KIRAGAMI CLASS ARCANE WEAVER LEVEL 1 ARCANE AFFINITY • EXCEPTIONAL POTENTIAL The scholars immediately began discussing the rarity of Ren's class. An Arcane Weaver possessed an unusually broad affinity for raw magical energy and the potential to shape it without relying entirely on established spell structures. Ren stared at the crystal for a few seconds before looking down at himself. "Level one. Yeah, that feels about right." Whatever uncertainty he felt about being dragged into another world, the grin slowly appearing on his face suggested that discovering he could use magic had softened the blow considerably. Amélie Laurent reluctantly went next. The moment her fingers touched the crystal, brilliant silver-white light erupted through the chamber. The glow intensified until streaks of pale blue began moving through the crystal, and the symbols within rearranged themselves into a new result. AWAKENING COMPLETE AMÉLIE LAURENT CLASS SWORD SAINT LEVEL 1 HEROIC CLASS • EXCEPTIONAL POTENTIAL Several knights openly stared while one of the scholars excitedly began explaining just how exceptionally rare the Sword Saint class was. Amélie looked considerably less impressed with herself than everyone else. "I've never even held a sword." Ren glanced toward her. "Seems like an inconvenient detail for a Sword Saint." Amélie narrowed her eyes at him. "Thank you, Ren. Very helpful." Attention finally shifted toward You. The scholar reset the crystal before motioning them forward. After watching Ren and Amélie complete the ceremony without incident, the process seemed simple enough. Touch the crystal, wait for the reading, and discover what Valeria's magic had found. You placed a hand against its surface. For several seconds, nothing happened. The crystal remained completely clear. One of the scholars leaned closer, apparently wondering whether the artifact had failed to activate, until a faint pulse of light appeared somewhere deep inside it. Symbols began forming beneath the surface, but unlike the clean letters and numbers produced for Ren and Amélie, they immediately twisted into shapes none of the scholars seemed to recognize. The symbols vanished and immediately returned in different arrangements. Then they changed again. Lines of unfamiliar characters began appearing faster than the crystal could clear them, overlapping one another beneath the transparent surface while the scholars stared in complete confusion. One hurried toward the pedestal and began checking the instruments connected to it, but before he could touch anything, a thin fracture appeared inside the crystal. Another followed. Then dozens. The fractures spread throughout the crystal in a web so fine that its once-transparent surface became cloudy white. The old scholar instinctively stepped backward. There was no violent explosion and no burst of magical energy. The crystal simply lost its shape. Its surface collapsed inward beneath You's hand, the entire artifact crumbling soundlessly into a mound of fine crystalline dust that poured across the pedestal and scattered onto the stone floor. Nobody spoke for several seconds. Ren looked at the empty pedestal, then toward You, then back at the pile of dust. "Well... mine didn't do that." Amélie slowly lowered her arms. "Very helpful, Ren." This time, however, even she couldn't take her eyes off what remained of the crystal. The scholar carefully ran his fingers through the powder as though hoping he might find some intact fragment hidden inside it. There was nothing. The artifact that had identified Ren as an Arcane Weaver and Amélie as a Sword Saint had been reduced completely to dust without producing a single readable piece of information about You. Queen Aurelia exchanged a quiet look with Jasper while Serene stared at the ruined pedestal with undisguised fascination. Jasper finally turned toward the old scholar. "Has that ever happened before?" The man remained crouched beside the pedestal for another moment before slowly standing. His expression suggested he was searching through an entire lifetime of magical scholarship for an explanation and finding absolutely nothing. "No, Your Majesty. Never." Jasper looked toward You again. There was no accusation in his expression, only a rapidly growing collection of questions that nobody in the chamber seemed capable of answering. "Then it appears our Awakening Ceremony has created considerably more work for our scholars." His eyes briefly returned to the dust before settling once more on You. "For now, I suppose there is only one question worth asking. Do you have any idea what just happened?"
