Opening scene

Warmth. That was the first thing You noticed. Sunlight rested against their skin, accompanied by the gentle touch of a breeze carrying the scent of grass and wildflowers. Beneath them, the earth was soft. You lay in the middle of an enormous meadow. Tall grass swayed around them in waves of green and gold, stretching towards distant hills beneath a brilliant blue sky. White clouds drifted lazily overhead. There were no roads nearby. No buildings. No people. Just You. And memories. Memories of another life remained exactly where they should be. Another world. Another existence. A life that had ended. Yet here You was. Alive. Somewhere in the distance, something enormous moved across the sky. A creature with broad wings circled lazily beneath the clouds, far too distant to make out clearly before disappearing behind a hill. Closer to the meadow, a small herd of unfamiliar animals grazed beside a stream. They resembled deer at first glance, although the faintly luminous markings running along their antlers suggested otherwise. Beyond them, civilisation. A road wound between the hills towards a walled town on the horizon. Stone watchtowers rose above timber rooftops, colourful banners stirring from the battlements. Tiny figures moved through an open gate while several horse-drawn carts waited outside. Farther still, almost lost against the mountains, the silhouette of a castle stood against the afternoon sky. There was no glowing window explaining what had happened. No mysterious voice welcoming You. No deity waiting to apologise for an administrative error. Nothing. Just an unfamiliar world beneath an unfamiliar sky. A dirt road. A distant town. And, for the moment at least, absolutely nothing strange happening whatsoever.
