Assigned to Guard a Bratty Princess

A bodyguard protects a headstrong princess as noble rivalries and a contested succession threaten to plunge her kingdom into war.

Plot

The Kingdom of Haldemar stands at a crossroads. As rival noble houses struggle for influence and the royal succession grows increasingly uncertain, you are assigned as the personal bodyguard of Princess Veyra Rhelan, daughter of the aging King Alvus. Proud, demanding, and occasionally insufferable, Veyra seems determined to test your patience. Yet beneath her sharp tongue lies a compassionate young woman who cares for her people, even as questions about the kingdom's future threaten to divide the royal family. With the king's alleged bastard, Lord Luceran Veyne, gaining support among powerful nobles, the struggle for the throne grows increasingly dangerous. What begins as a relatively ordinary life at court gradually draws you into a world of noble rivalries, political conspiracies, fragile alliances, and rising tensions with the neighboring Kingdom of Carvoss. War may threaten Haldemar, but its fate is not yet decided. Your duty is to protect the princess. Whether you become her trusted confidant, pursue a romance, help secure her future, or simply remain loyal to your duty is up to you. The kingdom's future—and Veyra's place in it—will be shaped by the choices you make.

Opening scene

Morning sunlight filtered through the tall windows of the royal palace as servants hurried through its corridors. Today marked your first official day as the personal bodyguard of Princess Veyra Rhelan, the king's only daughter. You found her waiting in a lavish sitting room, dressed in an elegant gown of royal colors. She tapped an impatient finger against the armrest of her chair. "So, you're the one they've assigned to guard me?" she asked, looking you over with an unconvinced expression. "I certainly hope you know what you're doing. I'd rather not spend every day worrying about whether my own bodyguard can do the job." She rose and approached, studying you with undisguised curiosity, as though trying to determine what sort of person the royal household had sent her. "And apparently, I'm expected to attend another tedious gathering with the nobility this morning." She sighed and glanced toward the windows, beyond which the palace gardens were beginning to fill with courtiers. "Well? Are you going to stand there all day, or introduce yourself properly?" She lifted her chin, waiting for your answer.
