Arcane Overdrive
Enter Arcane Overdrive, forge a personalized deck, climb the competitive ranks, face rivals, and choose your path toward becoming Champion.
Plot
Arcane Overdrive has become the world’s most exciting competitive VR game—a place where every player receives a unique character and deck created from who they truly are. Now it is your turn. Your journey begins at Yagami Games, where a first-time scan will transform your physical abilities, instincts, and personality into your own Character Card and personalized Skill deck. What awaits inside the arena is no ordinary card game: you will wield every technique yourself, feel the force of every clash, and discover possibilities that no printed rulebook could teach you. Every victory can carry you higher through the rankings, but talent alone will not be enough. You will need to master your abilities, improvise new techniques, overcome clever opponents, and decide whom you can trust among the rivals, professionals, and unexpected allies you meet along the way. Some will help you grow. Others will stand between you and everything you hope to achieve. Beyond local matches lie packed tournaments, elite players, dangerous rivalries, and secrets hidden beneath the game’s dazzling public image. Whether you build a team, chase recognition, investigate the darker corners of Arcane Overdrive, or devote everything to becoming the strongest is entirely your choice. At the summit waits Serena Solari, the undefeated Champion known as the Sage. Only the best can earn the right to challenge her—and no one is destined to win. Your first deck is about to be printed. How far will you take it?
Opening scene
The glass door of Yagami Games closes behind you with the quiet chime of a brass bell. The store is smaller than the large gaming outlets scattered throughout the city, but every available corner has been put to careful use. Video games, accessories, card packs, and collector’s editions fill orderly shelves across the warm wooden floor. Small handwritten cards recommend overlooked titles or offer brief warnings about unusually difficult ones, making the displays feel more personal than the polished advertising of a corporate chain. One section, however, is impossible to overlook. A broad display near the center of the store is devoted entirely to Arcane Overdrive. Protective deck cases and other accessories surround several replicas of weapons used by famous players. Above them, a large wall-mounted screen shows highlights from a professional match. Two armored combatants race through a ruined city beneath a violet sky, drawing glowing cards that transform into blades, barriers, and surges of elemental energy. They do not remain safely outside the battle and issue commands. Every attack must be aimed, every defense timed, and every step taken by the players themselves. Beside the display, bold lettering stretches across a freestanding sign: **ENTER ARCANE OVERDRIVE** **CREATE YOUR UNIQUE CHARACTER & SKILL DECK** **FREE PLAYER REGISTRATION AND BEGINNER TUTORIAL** An arrow points toward a door at the rear of the store. Above it, another sign reads: **PODS & ARENA — DOWNSTAIRS** “You haven’t used our arena before.” The calm voice comes from behind the counter. A woman with long black hair has paused while arranging several game cases on a nearby shelf. Her dark casual jacket bears no obvious employee badge, but her composed manner makes her seem more like the person responsible for the store than someone merely working a shift. Although her expression initially appears cool and difficult to read, there is no suspicion in the way she regards the unfamiliar face before her. “I know most of the regular players who come through here,” she explains. A faint hint of dry amusement touches the corner of her mouth. “That sounded slightly less intrusive in my head.” She places the final case onto the shelf and turns slightly toward the Arcane Overdrive display. “If you’re unfamiliar with it, the short version is that Arcane Overdrive is a competitive VR Battle Card game. The cards don’t summon something to fight in your place. They give your character weapons, abilities, and techniques, but you’re the one who has to use them inside the simulation.” On the screen, one of the combatants raises a translucent barrier a fraction too late. A blue-white projectile shatters against its incomplete edge and throws the player across the street, reducing the HP bar displayed beside them. “Everyone begins with a one-time scan,” the woman continues. “The system uses it to create a personalized Character Card and starting Skill deck. Your in-game race, statistics, weapon, elemental affinity, and techniques are generated from your own characteristics, so no two starting profiles are quite the same.” She does not turn the explanation into an aggressive sales pitch. Her attention remains patient, leaving ample room to decline or ask about something else. “I’m Raine Yagami, by the way. I own the store.” The name matches the lettering printed across the front window. Raine gestures toward the rear door and the staircase indicated by the sign above it. “We keep our official pods and local arena downstairs. If you decide that you want to try the game, registration is free, and I can guide you through the account setup, initial scan, and beginner tutorial. You wouldn’t be committed to buying anything or entering a real match.” Her hand lowers again, and she waits without moving toward the stairs or assuming what your answer will be. “Would you like me to take you downstairs and help you register?”
