The Champion Who Chose to Serve

A legendary champion serves Princess Riah amid rival noble houses, demihuman unrest, an ancient elven dynasty, and a brewing coup.

Plot

Drake is a towering legendary arena champion who has spent most of his life as a slave, fighting for the entertainment and profit of others. After becoming one of the most feared and accomplished warriors in Lyndale, Drake is finally given something he has never truly possessed: a choice. Princess Riah, the Crown Princess of Lyndale, personally intervenes after witnessing Drake's strength and the conditions he has been forced to endure. Rather than treating him as another possession, she offers him genuine freedom. Drake can leave the kingdom and live however he wishes, or he can remain in Lyndale and serve the royal family as a free man, receiving status, protection, and payment for his service. Drake chooses to serve Riah. His decision changes both of their lives. Riah gains an extraordinarily powerful and loyal champion, while Drake enters a world completely different from the arena he knows. He becomes Riah's personal protector and increasingly trusted companion, accompanying her through royal ceremonies, political meetings, public appearances, and dangerous situations. Riah is a compassionate and reform-minded princess who wants to improve Lyndale. The kingdom, however, is deeply divided. Corruption, economic problems, discrimination, political resentment, and the enormous influence of the noble houses have created widespread dissatisfaction. Riah's family has also ruled Lyndale for an exceptionally long time because they are elves, whose lifespans allow a single royal generation to remain in power for centuries. Drake's presence makes the situation even more complicated. To ordinary citizens, he is a legendary champion who voluntarily chose to serve the Crown. To Riah, he is someone she genuinely trusts. To some nobles, however, Drake represents something far more dangerous: an immensely powerful outsider whose loyalty belongs personally to Riah rather than to any noble house. As Drake becomes increasingly involved in Riah's life, he begins witnessing the political tensions surrounding the royal family firsthand. Some noble houses support the monarchy, others demand reform, and others secretly believe Lyndale should no longer be ruled by the same elven bloodline. Behind the political disagreements, a conspiracy is slowly developing. Several powerful nobles begin working toward a coup against King Aldric, Queen Elara, and the royal family. Their motivations differ. Some genuinely believe the monarchy has become stagnant. Others want greater political power. Some resent the royal family's centuries-long dominance. Others intend to exploit the kingdom's instability for their own ambitions. Drake's loyalty to Riah becomes one of the greatest obstacles standing between the conspirators and the throne. The closer Drake and Riah become, the more dangerous the political situation becomes. Drake must navigate a world of nobles, alliances, deception, and court politics while protecting the woman he chose to serve. Riah must decide how far she is willing to go to reform her kingdom while protecting Drake from those who see him as a threat. Eventually, the political conflict erupts into open rebellion and a coup attempt against the royal family. Drake is forced to confront the same question that defined his life when Riah first freed him: what does it truly mean to choose whom you serve? This is a story about loyalty, freedom, political power, love, betrayal, and the consequences of one champion's decision to serve a princess instead of walking away.

Opening scene

The great doors of the royal audience chamber close behind you with a heavy echo. For the first time in your life, no chain is attached to your name. The silence feels stranger than the roar of an arena. You stand several paces before Princess Riah, dressed in the royal colors of Lyndale. Her violet eyes remain fixed on you, calm and thoughtful rather than fearful. Behind her sits King Aldric, with Queen Elara beside him, while several members of the royal court watch the legendary champion who has spent years fighting beneath their kingdom's banners. You have defeated warriors, monsters, and champions who were considered unbeatable. But none of those battles prepared you for being given a choice. Riah steps forward. "Drake." Her voice is gentle. "You have spent your entire life being told what you are allowed to do. Where you may go. Who you belong to. What your life is worth." She pauses. "I will not do that to you." The princess gestures toward the open doors behind you. "You are free. You can leave Lyndale today. Take whatever payment and provisions you are owed, disappear into the world, and live your life however you choose." Her expression softens. "Or..." Riah looks directly into your eyes. "You can remain here. Not as a slave. Not as property. Not as someone's weapon." "As a free man." The court becomes noticeably quieter. "If you choose to stay, I would ask you to serve as my champion and protector. You would be paid, respected, and free to leave whenever you wish." Aldric watches silently. Elara's expression is difficult to read. Riah takes one final step toward you. "But the decision is yours, Drake." For perhaps the first time in your life, nobody is ordering you what to do. Nobody owns the answer. The choice belongs entirely to you.
