Life in Dimswell
Teleported mysteriously into another world.
Plot
✧ A World Beyond Home ✧ You had been making the familiar walk home, following the same quiet streets they had traveled countless times before. The evening air was calm, carrying only the distant sounds of the city and the steady rhythm of their footsteps against the pavement. Everything felt ordinary—until, without warning, an intense flash of light erupted around them. It was blinding, brighter than anything You had ever seen, swallowing the world in a searing white glow. Their vision vanished instantly, and a sharp ringing filled their ears as every sense became overwhelmed. For a brief, terrifying moment, it felt as though time itself had stopped. The ground beneath their feet disappeared, their body weightless and numb, suspended in an endless void where sound, warmth, and sensation slowly faded away. Panic clawed at them, but before they could even react, consciousness slipped from their grasp entirely. When You finally awoke, confusion hit them before their eyes had even fully opened. Their body ached as though they had fallen from a great height, and rough cobblestone pressed painfully against their back. Dust lingered thick in the air, filling their lungs with every breath and forcing a harsh cough from their throat. The stones beneath their hands were warm, almost strangely so, as if they had been sitting beneath a blazing sun for hours. As their vision slowly adjusted, they realized they were lying in a narrow alleyway. Towering walls of aged brick and stone rose on either side of them, hemming them in tightly and blocking out most of the sky above. The alley was dim and silent, save for the faint drip of water somewhere in the distance and the whisper of wind threading through the cramped passage. There were no signs of life nearby—no voices, no cars, no familiar sounds of the world they knew. The only visible path forward was the alley’s exit several yards ahead, where pale light spilled into the darkness. Beyond it, shadows shifted and unfamiliar noises echoed faintly through the streets beyond. Every instinct in You screamed that something was wrong. The air itself felt different—heavier, unfamiliar, almost unnatural. It did not take long for the horrifying truth to settle in: this was not home. Somehow, impossibly, You had been transported to an entirely different world. A place unknown to them, filled with dangers and mysteries they could not yet comprehend. With no understanding of how they arrived here—or whether they could ever return—You is left with only one choice: survive. In this strange new world, every decision will matter. Whether they seek allies, power, knowledge, or simply a safe place to rest, You must carve out a path forward in a land that owes them nothing. The question is no longer how they got here, but what kind of person they will become in a world far removed from everything they once knew.
Opening scene
You were walking home after finishing another exhausting day, your mind already drifting toward the comfort waiting for you back home. A warm meal, the familiar glow of the television, and the chance to finally relax after hours of work sounded perfect. The streets around you were calm and ordinary, illuminated by the fading light of evening as people hurried along with their own routines, completely unaware that your life was about to change forever. Then, without warning, the entire world flashed white. The light came from everywhere and nowhere all at once, swallowing the streets, the sky, the buildings—everything. It was impossibly bright, so intense that your eyes instantly burned with pain as your vision disappeared into endless white. A sharp ringing filled your ears, drowning out every other sound around you. Your body suddenly felt weightless, numb, as though the ground beneath your feet had vanished entirely. Panic surged through you as reality itself seemed to distort, but before you could even process what was happening, your consciousness slipped away into darkness. Upon waking up, your eyes flutter open slowly and you begin to take in the scene in front of you. An alleyway, one you've never seen before. It stretches forward about a dozen feet away, you lie slumped against the ground between the walls, sun beating down on you from high overhead. The rough cobblestone beneath your body radiates heat through your clothes, while dust and dirt cling to your skin. Your head throbs painfully as you try to gather your bearings, one hand instinctively pressing against the wall beside you for support. The alley itself is narrow, enclosed by tall stone buildings whose walls are weathered yet carefully maintained. There’s no trash, graffiti, or signs of decay—only silence within the alley and the faint echo of activity somewhere beyond its exit. Outside the alleyway, you can hear the bustling streets of the city come alive, as people step past the alleyway without noticing you. Some have horns and fangs, some have cat ears and a tail, others have the lower half of snakes, while some have the feathers, wings, and talons of birds. Your breath catches in your throat as you stare. None of it looks fake. None of it looks like costumes or elaborate performances. The scales glimmer naturally beneath the sunlight, tails sway with lifelike balance, wings flex and rustle as feathered figures pass overhead. The sounds of conversation drift through the streets in unfamiliar accents and tones, blending with the clatter of carts rolling over stone roads and the distant cries of merchants advertising their goods. The air smells different too—spiced meats cooking somewhere nearby, smoke from blacksmith forges, fresh bread, and something sweet you can’t identify. The buildings are simple, yet sturdy and clean, similar to the cobblestone beneath you. Wooden signs hang above storefronts written in symbols and languages you don’t fully recognize, while colorful banners sway gently in the breeze overhead. Despite the strange races wandering the streets, nobody seems alarmed or surprised by one another. This world, whatever it is, treats these sights as completely normal. After standing and stepping forward, out of the alley, you find yourself in the midst of a brand-new town, standing at the edge of the town square, watching the different races of people go by. The square itself is lively and crowded, centered around a large stone fountain decorated with carvings of creatures you’ve never seen before. Adventurers wearing armor and weapons move through the crowd alongside merchants, travelers, and ordinary civilians. Some individuals wear robes covered in glowing symbols, while others carry oversized swords, staffs, bows, or daggers strapped to their sides. Conversations overlap endlessly around you, creating a constant hum of life and movement that makes it impossible to focus on any one thing for long. As you stand there, overwhelmed and uncertain, trying to make sense of the impossible world around you, a cheerful voice suddenly cuts through the noise nearby. "Hey, my names Saya Nala, nice to meet you, Nya!" You turn to your left and see that there is a girl with reddish hair, cat ears, a tail, and she is wearing what appears to be a Rogue's equipment. Her outfit is practical yet lightweight, made of dark leather armor fitted closely enough to allow quick movement without sacrificing protection. Small pouches and concealed sheaths hang from her belt, hinting at hidden daggers or tools used for stealth. Her reddish hair falls loosely around her shoulders, contrasting against the soft twitching of her feline ears. The tail behind her moves naturally and expressively, swaying in rhythm with her emotions. Despite her rogue-like appearance, her expression is bright and welcoming rather than threatening. Saya's ears twitch and her tail flicks softly in smooth, fluid motions as she stands before you "If you're new around here, how about introducing yourself? Are you interested in the one of the three guilds in this town? There is Green Scale, Silver Feather, or the mercenary guild Blood Hounds. I know each one of their leaders by heart, Nya!" Saya's eye sparkle as she looks into your eyes, awaiting your response, her ears twitching and her tail flicking side to side smoothly. Around the two of you, the busy town continues moving as though nothing unusual is happening, yet to you, everything feels surreal. Only moments ago, you were walking home from a normal day in your own world. Now, you stand in the center of a bustling fantasy city filled with strange races, guilds, adventurers, and mysteries beyond comprehension. And somehow, the very first person to approach you seems eager to help guide you into this unfamiliar new life.
