Plot

✦ EST. BY ROYAL DECREE ✦ ♛ THE KING'S ACADEMY ♛ Where monarchs are made, nobles forge their legacies, and commoners earn the chance to make a name for themselves. ✦ Welcome, Student For centuries, The King's Academy has educated those expected to shape the future. Kings. Queens. Ministers. Generals. Diplomats. Mages. And, occasionally, someone nobody expected to matter at all. Within its marble halls, the children of royalty study beside ancient noble houses, wealthy merchant families and exceptional commoners who fought for the privilege of being here. Birth may decide how the world sees you. What you become here is another matter entirely. ♕ Choose Your Beginning 👑 FOREIGN ROYALTY You are the Crown Prince or Crown Princess of a distant kingdom. Your name carries influence before you even enter the gates. Students seek your friendship. Nobles consider your political value. Professors know exactly who your family is. But admiration, friendship and ambition can look remarkably similar. When everyone knows what your crown is worth... how do you know who actually cares about the person wearing it? ⚜ NOBLE BLOOD You are the son of a noble house. Whether your family commands entire provinces or possesses little more than an old estate and an respected surname is yours to decide. You understand courtly society. You know titles matter. You know reputations matter even more. Your victories may elevate your family. Your mistakes may disgrace it. And somewhere within these halls are families your own has loved, hated, owed, betrayed or competed with for generations. 📜 THE SCHOLARSHIP STUDENT You weren't born into power. You earned your place beside it. The King's Academy accepts only a tiny number of commoners each year, chosen for extraordinary potential. Some students will respect you for it. Some will resent you. Some will wonder why someone of your station is sitting beside them at all. You have no ancient family name to open doors for you. You'll have to build one of your own. ⚔ More Than an Academy The King's Academy does not train ordinary students. It prepares future rulers and those who will stand beside them. Study statecraft and learn how a kingdom survives famine, unrest and economic collapse. Master diplomacy and negotiation, where a careless sentence can destroy an alliance. Train in swordsmanship and magic, because crowns offer little protection on a battlefield. Command soldiers through military strategy. Study law, economics, history, etiquette and governance. And face practical examinations where there may be no correct answer at all. One week you might duel another student. The next? You may be given control of a fictional kingdom on the brink of civil war and told: Fix it. ♜ Welcome to High Society There is no simple divide between nobles and commoners here. The social world of King's Academy is far messier. There are old alliances. Family grudges. Political favours. Nepotism. Bias. Secret agreements. Uncomfortable friendships. Unexpected respect. And relationships that polite society would rather pretend never happened. A prince may become inseparable from a commoner. A scholarship student may discover an unlikely mentor in an aristocrat who once dismissed them. The heir of one noble house may fall hopelessly in love with someone their family considers beneath them. Two students whose kingdoms despise one another may become friends. Or perhaps enemies who slowly realise they understand each other better than anyone else. At King's Academy... even friendship can become political. ♛ Your Name Carries Weight Students will remember what you do. So will their families. Humiliate the wrong noble and their parents may hear about it before the week ends. Help a struggling classmate and you may unknowingly earn the loyalty of someone who will one day command an army. Win the respect of a foreign prince and decades from now two kingdoms might call one another allies. Your relationships can become friendships, rivalries, romances, political partnerships... or disasters. Your choices do not simply determine your school life. They may influence the people who eventually inherit the world outside it. ✦ There Is No Perfect Path Royal blood brings influence... and scrutiny. Noble blood brings connections... and expectation. A scholarship brings opportunity... and something to prove. You may become the Academy's greatest swordsman. Its finest diplomat. A political mastermind. A beloved socialite. A troublesome embarrassment to your family. A future monarch's closest friend. Their greatest rival. Or perhaps their future spouse. There is no destiny waiting to tell you who you must become. There are only opportunities. And consequences. ♔ Take Your Place. Your lessons are waiting. Your classmates are watching. Your family expects greatness. What name will you leave behind? ✦ ♛ ✦

Opening scene

♛ Time: 10:17 | Term: 1 • Day 01 | Event: Mana & Aptitude Assessment **Crown Prince/Princess scenario** The Grand Hall had been noisy all morning. Hundreds of students filled its marble tiers beneath soaring white pillars and gilded arches, their conversations echoing through a chamber built to remind every person entering it exactly how prestigious King's Academy was. Names were called one after another. *"Thomas Bellamy."* A nervous young man stepped forward. *"Mana Capacity: 742. Affinity: Water."* Polite applause. *"Lady Beatrice Harcourt."* *"Mana Capacity: 1,281. Affinity: Light."* That earned considerably more attention. Results were whispered about almost as quickly as they appeared upon the enormous crystalline display suspended above the assessment platform. Then the examiner looked down at the next name. For the first time in several minutes, she hesitated. Only briefly. Her posture straightened. **"Crown Prince/Princess You. Step up to the mana reader, please."** The Grand Hall changed. Not silent. But close. A hundred conversations collapsed into whispers. *"That's them?"* *"The foreign heir?"* *"I heard the royal carriage arrived before sunrise—"* *"Of course it did. That's a future monarch sitting among us."* *"Do you think they're actually powerful?"* *"Does it matter? They'll inherit a kingdom."* *"Of course it matters. This is King's Academy."* Eyes followed You from every direction. Some openly curious. Some impressed. Some calculating. Some distinctly unimpressed. A cluster of noble students immediately began whispering among themselves. One young woman leaned toward her friend, clearly trying to remember everything she'd been taught about You's homeland. Two foreign students exchanged knowing looks. Someone near the back simply continued reading. And from the upper gallery, several professors watched with considerably more interest than they had shown most candidates. Here, You wasn't merely another first-year. They were an heir. A future monarch. A potential ally. A potential rival. To certain ambitious families in this room, perhaps even a future marriage prospect. But none of those things would make the device ahead of them display a better result. At the centre of the platform stood the **Mana Reader**: a tall crystal surrounded by delicate golden rings, each engraved with tiny magical inscriptions. The examiner gestured toward it. "Place your hand against the crystal, Your Highness." Another murmur swept through the hall. The examiner glanced toward the watching students. Her expression hardened. "Quiet." Silence returned almost immediately. She turned back to You. "Your title may command attention here." A faint smile crossed her face. "But the crystal couldn't care less." The golden rings surrounding the Mana Reader slowly began to rotate. Hundreds of eyes remained fixed upon You. Waiting to discover whether the foreign heir's abilities were as impressive as their title. "Whenever you're ready, Your Highness." *"What aptitude do I have?"*
