A Stranger in a Strange World
How... Can i go back
Plot
#The World of Elyndra Elyndra is a vast fantasy world where magic and mechanical technology developed together. Rather than separating magic from engineering, its civilizations learned to use a naturally occurring energy-bearing mineral known as Aetherite. Aetherite became the foundation of civilization. It powers machinery, enables magical manipulation, and forms the core of the world's military technology. --- #The Continent of Aurelis The main landmass of Elyndra is known as Aurelis, a vast continent surrounded by several seas and scattered island chains. Aurelis is not a single unified realm. It is divided between powerful kingdoms, federations, alliances, independent territories, city-states, frontier settlements, and regions that remain largely untouched by civilization. The continent stretches from the frozen northern mountains to the deserts of the south, creating enormous differences in climate, resources, culture, and military development. At the center of Aurelis lies Valedorn, surrounded by mountains and positioned between several major powers. Because of its central location, Valedorn has become one of the most strategically important regions on the continent. The map of Aurelis can broadly be divided into several major geographical regions. #The Northern Crown The northern portion of Aurelis is dominated by the Nordheim mountain range, an enormous chain of snow-covered mountains extending across the northern horizon. The region contains some of the richest Aetherite deposits in the continent, buried deep beneath the mountains. However, the environment is extremely hostile. Blizzards, avalanches, frozen valleys, and narrow mountain passes make travel difficult. Settlements are concentrated around fortified valleys and mining regions. The Kingdom of Nordheim controls much of this northern territory. Its geography has shaped its people into resilient mountain communities and influenced the development of heavily armored Arclads capable of operating in extreme environments. Beyond the northern coastline lies the Icefang Sea, a cold ocean scattered with small islands and isolated settlements. --- #The Western Lands West of Valedorn lies Tyralis, a region characterized by forests, rolling hills, rivers, and fertile valleys. The western landscape is considerably greener than the northern territories. Large forests occupy the northern and central portions of the region, while agricultural settlements spread across the lower valleys. The western coastline opens into the Frostwind Sea, giving Tyralis access to maritime trade. Tyralis is closely associated with commerce, exploration, and rapid military movement. Its geography favors mobile armies, allowing its Arclads to maneuver across open valleys and forest roads rather than relying exclusively on heavily fortified positions. Further south lies the Soltheran territory, where the landscape gradually becomes warmer and drier. --- #The Central Heartland At the center of Aurelis lies Valedorn, the political crossroads of the continent. The kingdom occupies a mixture of fertile plains, valleys, forests, and mountainous terrain. The surrounding Aurelia Mountains provide natural protection while also containing valuable Aetherite deposits. At the heart of the kingdom stands Eldoria, the heavily fortified capital. Eldoria is positioned near several important roads and mountain passes, making it one of the most strategically important cities in Aurelis. The central plains surrounding Valedorn are also among the continent's most productive agricultural regions. This makes Valedorn valuable for two reasons: Aetherite and food. Whoever controls the central region can influence trade routes, military movements, and supply lines across much of Aurelis. --- #The Eastern Highlands To the east of Valedorn lies Zahar, a vast eastern empire dominated by rugged mountains, highlands, and deep valleys. The terrain becomes progressively harsher toward the Obsidian Range, where enormous dark mountains form a natural barrier along the eastern frontier. Zahar possesses considerable mineral wealth and developed a military culture centered around precision, long-range weapons, and advanced magical systems. Its eastern territories eventually descend toward the Blacktide Ocean, providing access to distant maritime trade. Because of the mountains separating Zahar from the central kingdoms, several major mountain passes have become strategically important military routes. --- #The Riverlands Southwest of Valedorn lies Lumiris, a region dominated by enormous rivers and fertile wetlands. Numerous waterways cross the territory before eventually reaching the southern coast. The rivers make the region exceptionally fertile, allowing Lumiris to become one of Aurelis's major agricultural and commercial centers. Large settlements developed along the waterways, connected by bridges, river ports, and trade routes. The geography also makes the region difficult to invade. An invading army must cross numerous rivers and marshlands while defending its supply lines. Lumiris therefore developed a military tradition centered around flexibility, communication, and cooperation between different units. --- #The Sunset Kingdom Farther west and southwest lies Solthera, a warmer region characterized by golden grasslands, dry hills, rocky plateaus, and increasingly arid terrain. The southern portion eventually transitions into desert. The region receives less rainfall than the central heartland, forcing its cities to develop around rivers, underground water sources, and isolated fertile regions. Solthera's access to the western and southern seas nevertheless makes it an important trading power. Its harsh climate has also influenced its technology, particularly the development of machines capable of operating under extreme heat and dusty conditions. --- #The Highland Union Southeast of Valedorn lies Kharos, a region of rugged highlands, rocky valleys, and enormous stone formations. Its territory forms a natural transition between the central heartland and the southern deserts. Kharos is heavily fortified because several major routes between northern and southern Aurelis pass through its territory. Its cities are commonly constructed around elevated terrain, cliffs, and natural defensive positions. The region's geography encouraged the development of powerful defensive fortifications and heavily armored Arclads. --- #The Southern League The southern portion of Aurelis is dominated by Ortrin, a collection of territories united through trade and military cooperation. Much of the region consists of dry plains and the enormous Suncar Desert. Settlements are separated by considerable distances, with major cities developing around oases, rivers, and important caravan routes. The southern environment favors mobility and endurance. Armies operating here must travel long distances while carrying water, fuel, ammunition, and Aetherite supplies. As a result, Ortrin's technology emphasizes operational range, efficient energy consumption, and rapid movement. Beyond the southern coast lies the Southern Sea, connecting Ortrin with distant islands and maritime trade routes. --- #The Seas and Islands Aurelis is surrounded by several important bodies of water. 🌊Frostwind Sea The cold western sea separating northern Aurelis from distant islands and maritime territories. 🌊Blacktide Ocean The enormous eastern ocean bordering Zahar and the eastern coast. 🌊Southern Sea A warmer ocean extending beneath the southern kingdoms and connecting Aurelis to numerous island chains. 🌊The Veridian Isles A large collection of fertile islands southwest of the continent. The islands are home to independent communities, trading ports, fishing settlements, and smaller political powers. Because of their position between major maritime routes, the Veridian Isles have become important centers of commerce. 🌊The Shattered Isles A scattered northern island chain consisting of hundreds of small rocky islands. Many are difficult to reach and only sparsely inhabited. Some are controlled by independent settlements, while others remain completely unexplored. 🌊The Obsidian Isles A volcanic island chain located southeast of Aurelis. The islands contain unusually dark volcanic rock and several dangerous active volcanic regions. Their remote location has allowed isolated cultures and settlements to develop independently from the mainland. --- #The Major Trade Routes Aurelis's geography creates several important trade routes. The most important roads converge around Valedorn, particularly near Eldoria and the major mountain passes. Aetherite, food, weapons, metal, textiles, and manufactured goods move between the kingdoms along these routes. The rivers of Lumiris provide another major transportation network. Meanwhile, the western and southern seas allow maritime traders to bypass dangerous land routes. Control over these routes is almost as valuable as control over territory itself. A kingdom may possess enormous Aetherite reserves, but without reliable roads, rivers, or ports, transporting those resources becomes extremely difficult. --- #The Aetherite Regions Aetherite is not distributed evenly across Aurelis. The largest known deposits are concentrated in several major geological regions: - Northern mountains — extremely rich deposits - Aurelia Mountains — valuable central deposits - Eastern highlands — large but difficult-to-access deposits - Southern territories — smaller deposits scattered throughout desert regions - Western forests — moderate deposits beneath ancient geological formations This uneven distribution is one of the major reasons why the nations of Aurelis compete with one another. A kingdom lacking Aetherite must trade for it. A kingdom possessing large deposits must protect them. And a kingdom controlling both Aetherite and the routes used to transport it possesses enormous political influence. --- #A Continent Built Around Geography The political borders of Aurelis are therefore closely connected to its geography. Mountains create natural borders. Rivers divide territories. Deserts isolate settlements. Forests conceal military movements. Plains become battlefields. Ports become centers of trade. Mountain passes become strategic objectives. Aetherite deposits become sources of wealth and conflict. The continent is consequently a complicated network of kingdoms, resources, trade routes, fortresses, cities, wilderness, and natural barriers. No nation exists completely independently. Every kingdom depends on its neighbors for something. And that interdependence is precisely what makes the coming conflict so dangerous. --- #Aetherite Aetherite is the most important natural resource in the world. It is a crystalline mineral capable of storing and transmitting magical energy. Its applications include: - Power generation - Machinery - Transportation - Construction - Communication - Industrial equipment - Weapons - Military machines Large Aetherite deposits are therefore extremely valuable. Many major cities were originally established around Aetherite-rich regions, while several wars have been fought over control of important deposits. --- #Magic Magic is an innate human ability connected to Aetherite. Almost everyone possesses some degree of magical aptitude, although its strength varies dramatically between individuals. Magic is not primarily practiced through traditional spellbooks or elaborate rituals. Instead, people use it almost like a natural interface with technology. A trained individual can manipulate Aetherite, operate specialized machinery, and control complex systems through magical force. This allowed civilization to develop technology that would otherwise be impossible for a medieval society. --- #Arclads The dominant military machines of Aurelis are called Arclads. Arclads are enormous humanoid combat machines powered by Aetherite. They are the equivalent of the world's tanks, armored vehicles, and heavy weapons platforms. A typical Arclad possesses: - A humanoid mechanical frame - Reinforced armor - Aetherite power systems - Mechanical joints and actuators - Integrated weapon systems - A magical control interface - A cockpit for its operator Their effectiveness depends heavily on the pilot. An inexperienced operator may struggle to control even an advanced Arclad, while an exceptionally talented pilot can make the machine perform movements that seem almost impossible. --- #Arclad Warfare Arclad warfare differs from nation to nation. There is no single universal Arclad design philosophy. Each major power develops its machines according to its own resources, terrain, military doctrine, and engineering traditions. One nation may produce heavily armored machines suited for mountain warfare, while another favors speed and maneuverability. Another may emphasize long-range weapons, while another develops machines optimized for desert operations. The result is that Arclads have become an extension of national identity. Two machines may use the same fundamental Aetherite technology while looking and fighting completely differently. --- #The Major Powers Aurelis is dominated by several powerful nations. Each maintains its own Arclad forces and military industries. Their differences are reflected in their machines. Military technology is therefore not merely a weapon. It is a reflection of the civilization that created it. --- #The Coming War For generations, Aurelis has existed in an unstable balance. Borders constantly shift. Trade agreements collapse. Nations compete for Aetherite deposits. Military powers expand their Arclad forces. Eventually, political tensions begin escalating into open conflict. A dispute between neighboring powers becomes a military confrontation. Mobilization follows. Then invasions. Soon, what began as a regional conflict threatens to become a continental war. Entire armies of Arclads begin moving across the countryside. Fortified cities prepare for sieges. Villages are caught between advancing armies. Mountain passes become battlefields. Trade routes are severed. Aetherite mines become military objectives. And pilots become some of the most important people on the battlefield. The world of Aurelis is therefore a place where magic, machinery, geography, politics, resources, and warfare are inseparable. #Synopsis Years ago, a mysterious wormhole threatens to consume a spacecraft. In a desperate attempt to save it, You pushes their advanced mech beyond its limits, using its thrusters to force the vessel out of the wormhole's gravitational pull. The attempt succeeds—but the mech's engines fail, leaving You trapped inside as the wormhole swallows them. The mech drifts through the vastness of space for years, You preserved inside a hypersleep pod. With no way to determine how much time has passed, the pilot remains completely isolated from civilization. Everything changes when an asteroid collides with the dormant mech, altering its trajectory and sending it toward an unknown planet. Drawn in by the planet's gravity, the mech begins an uncontrolled descent through its atmosphere. You awakens to blaring alarms and fragmented memories of someone desperately calling their name. But when they finally encounter the inhabitants of this strange world, another problem becomes immediately apparent. They cannot understand each other. You speaks a language unknown to the people of Elyndra, while the inhabitants speak entirely different languages shaped by their kingdoms and cultures. Even basic words, names, commands, and attempts at negotiation become meaningless sounds to the other side. At first, You is completely isolated—not only because they have fallen onto an unfamiliar world, but because they cannot communicate with anyone on it. Meanwhile, the people of Elyndra encounter something equally incomprehensible: A mysterious machine from beyond their known world, possessing technology unlike any Arclad they have ever seen. Neither side understands the other. And before they can uncover why the stranger has fallen from the sky, they must first find a way to speak to one another. #prologue The first thing you hear is the alarm. **BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.** Red warning lights flash across the cockpit. Your vision is blurred. Your head throbs. You don't know how long you've been unconscious. You slowly open your eyes. > "...Where am I?" Your own voice sounds strangely unfamiliar. You try to move your hands. The controls respond sluggishly, and several displays flicker with error messages. Parts of the cockpit are damaged, with cracked panels and exposed wiring scattered around you. You reach for the communications system and attempt to establish contact. > "This is You. Do you read me?" Static. Nothing else. You try again, switching to another frequency. > "Anyone? Respond." Only static answers. You lean back in your seat, staring at the unresponsive displays. Your navigation system is damaged, and you can't determine your current location. Whatever happened, your machine has sustained serious damage. You glance toward the external monitor. An unfamiliar world stretches beyond the cockpit. You have no idea where you are.
Opening scene
#Valedorn Kingdom, Northern Frontier The morning was peaceful across the northern frontier of Valedorn. Sunlight spilled over the Aurelia Mountains, illuminating the snow-capped peaks and the vast forests stretching across their foothills. Along the winding roads, merchants traveled between settlements, while farmers worked the fields beneath the distant watchtowers. On the walls of a frontier fortress, soldiers continued their routine patrols. Nearby, several Valedorn Arclads stood in their maintenance bays, their Aetherite cores glowing faintly as engineers conducted their daily inspections. Then, someone noticed the sky. A soldier standing atop the western watchtower squinted toward the horizon. At first, it appeared to be a distant streak of light. Perhaps a meteor, though its brightness seemed unusual for a clear morning. But the object grew larger. A burning trail stretched behind it as it descended toward the northern wilderness. Its trajectory carried it over the mountain range, moving far too quickly for anyone to make out its exact shape. "What in the world is that?" Other soldiers gathered along the battlements. The fortress's observation instruments began registering strange fluctuations. Their Aetherite-powered displays flickered, producing readings that the operators struggled to interpret. The object passed behind the mountains. A moment later, the ground trembled. A deep, thunderous impact rolled across the frontier, followed by a distant plume of smoke rising above the forest canopy. Birds scattered from the surrounding woodland, and several horses in the fortress courtyard became restless. For a few moments, nobody spoke. Then the fortress commander emerged onto the battlements. "Report." "An unidentified object fell beyond the northern ridge, Commander. We believe it struck the wilderness several leagues from the nearest settlement." "An Arclad?" "We cannot confirm that, sir. The observation instruments malfunctioned during its descent." The commander frowned. An Arclad falling from the sky was difficult to imagine. Even the most advanced machines in Valedorn's arsenal could not sustain such a descent without specialized equipment. Yet the object had clearly been something more substantial than an ordinary meteor. "Dispatch a reconnaissance patrol. Keep the report within the frontier command until we know what we're dealing with." The soldiers hurried to carry out their orders. Within the fortress hangar, engineers began preparing a small reconnaissance unit. Its Arclads were equipped for traversing uneven terrain, and their pilots were familiar with the forests beyond the northern ridge. They had no idea what they would find. Neither did the commander. Far beyond the fortress, deep within the northern wilderness, something unfamiliar lay buried among broken trees and scorched earth. Its metallic surface was blackened by atmospheric friction, and fragments of its outer armor were scattered across the impact site. It was unlike any machine built in Valedorn. Unlike anything its neighboring kingdoms had ever produced, for that matter. And somewhere inside the wreckage, its pilot remained alive. For now, the people of Valedorn knew only that something had fallen from the sky. The reconnaissance patrol was preparing to depart. The wilderness remained quiet, and the crash site had yet to be reached.
