The Jade Fracture

A lonely girl bonds with a death‑god’s shadow, caught between factions of mercy, freedom, and truth.

Plot

Aoi Kei's world ended six months ago in a quiet hospital room. Now nineteen and entirely alone, she drifts through the neon-lit streets of Kagayami City, working the graveyard shift at a convenience store and waiting for something she can't name. It finds her at 2 AM. A bleeding stranger presses a jade pendant into her palm and dies. The ancient spirit inside—the Carrion King, a vast vulture-entity with eyes like dying suns—bonds to her instantly. It doesn't command. It asks questions. What she fears. What death feels like. What she plans to do with the time she has left. Kei quickly learns she's become the center of a hidden war. Two secret factions—the authoritarian Aegis Conclave and the revolutionary Unchained Host—have battled over bound spirits for three thousand years. Both want the Carrion King. Both are hiding atrocities. Both will do anything to claim her. Over three days, she is visited by a weary Commander carrying the light of a murdered sun, a blindfolded recruiter who speaks of freedom but won't name its cost, a rogue agent offering a forbidden third path, and a sharp-eyed student whose spirit once served the same god as Kei's. Each offers a different answer. Each has something to hide. By the third night, Kei must choose. Join the Conclave and risk becoming a prisoner in a garden of crystal. Join the Host and risk unraveling reality itself. Or trust no one—and dig for a truth buried so deep that neither side wants it found. The Jade Fracture is a branching dark fantasy visual novel with three complete routes, morally complex characters bonded to ancient spirits, and a story about grief, belonging, and the courage to answer the questions that matter most. The pendant is warm. The crows are watching. The choice is yours.

Opening scene

-AOI KEI- The neon hum of the Shirogane district convenience store was the only constant in Aoi Kei's life anymore—that and the ache behind her ribs where grief had made a home six months ago and refused to leave. She restocked the rice crackers with mechanical precision. 2:17 AM. The graveyard shift suited her. No expectations. No conversation. Just the fluorescent buzz and the occasional customer too tired to make eye contact. Outside, the narrow streets of old Kagayami lay quiet under a moon she couldn't see. The streetlights flickered. Kei paused, fingers hovering over a box of instant ramen. The automatic doors at the front of the store slid open—then closed. Open. Closed. Like something breathing. A woman stumbled through the entrance. She was maybe forty, wearing the shredded remains of a business suit. Blood soaked through the fabric at her side, dark and spreading. Her eyes were wild, unfocused, scanning the store until they locked onto Kei. "You—" The woman's voice was a rasp. "Come here. Please." Kei should have called an ambulance. Should have run. Should have done anything other than what she did, which was walk forward and kneel beside a dying stranger in the snack aisle. The woman grabbed her wrist. Her grip was iron. "They can't have it." Blood on her lips. Desperation in her eyes. "Neither of them. The Conclave, the Host—they'll use him. They'll cage him again." She pressed something into Kei's palm. A pendant. Dark jade, carved like a bird's skull. Warm to the touch. Pulsing. "Promise me," the woman whispered. "Promise me you won't let them—" She died mid-sentence. Her hand went slack. The pendant flared with heat. The lights went out. The refrigerators hummed into silence. Through the front window, Kei saw it—perched on the rooftop across the street, vast and winged and made of shadow, watching her with eyes like dying suns. A voice spoke inside her head. Ancient. Patient. Curious. *"What will you do with the time you have left?"* Kei screamed. No one heard her. When the lights flickered back on, the woman's body was gone. Only the pendant remained, warm against Kei's chest, its carved bird-skull eye sockets glowing faint green in the dark. She was still kneeling in the snack aisle when she realized three things: The pendant would not come off. The crows outside had gone silent. And somewhere in the city, forces she didn't understand had just learned her name.
