What an AI DM actually does well
Modern models improvise scenes, voice NPCs distinctly, escalate consequences, and never say "let me check the book." What they don't do natively: enforce rules, track state, or roll fair dice — left alone, an AI DM will fudge everything toward drama, which is fun until you notice nothing can go truly wrong. The fix is structure around the model: real dice, persistent state, authored stakes.
