Cast aside by friends and faith alike, one outcast walks Vantiel alone—free from divine design, forging a future by sheer will.Everweave is the AI Dungeon Master app that r/DungeonsAndDragons keeps arguing about: "Play DnD anywhere, anytime", an AI narrator that runs the world, tracks your sheet and rolls the dice, 500,000+ Android installs and a 4.3-star App Store rating. It is also sitting at 2.2 stars on Google Play, and the most common word in its September 2026 reviews is "messages". This review covers what Everweave actually is, what it costs to keep playing, what its own players say this month, and what to try if you hit the wall. Full disclosure up front: we are the ISEKAI ZERO team, we make an AI roleplay game, and we will be fair anyway, because Everweave gets a lot right.

What Everweave is
You make a character (fighter, paladin, warlock, barbarian, rogue, cleric, with more locked behind payment according to reviewers), pick a starting situation, and an AI Dungeon Master takes over. There are no scripted branches. Say you want to run a tavern, hunt a dragon, or kidnap a barmaid and hide from the city guard, and the DM improvises it, keeps a character sheet, calls for ability checks, and narrates combat turn by turn.
That is the pitch, and when it works it is genuinely good. The reviews that love it read like this: "I just installed this game because I was looking for a D&D style game, and this one works for me." Another player notes the DM "knows who these people are" when you drop characters from books and films into the story. Solo tabletop, no scheduling, no group chat dying after session two. Everweave nails the fantasy of a DM in your pocket.
What's genuinely good
- The DM improvises well. Freeform input, coherent consequences, real ability checks. It feels like a table, not a chatbot.
- 5e bones without the homework. Classes, HP, inventory and conditions are tracked for you. No rulebook needed.
- It is on every screen. Phone, tablet, browser, same character.
- The team ships. Updates landed on 11 and 12 September 2026 alone. Version numbers move weekly.
The catch: messages
Every action you send costs one message. A dungeon crawl with a few combat rounds and some questions to the DM is easily 30 to 50 messages. The free tier gives you around 60 per month, and they refill monthly, not daily.
That is the whole problem in one sentence, and the reviews say it louder than we can. From Google Play and the App Store, 8 to 11 September 2026:
"I love the concept. I hate the limited dialogue unless you pay for more. I had all my dialogue gone in about an hour and half." (2 stars)
"I was enjoying it after having ignored it for so long. Then I saw the wait timer. 21 days 20 hours 13 minutes, and some odd seconds? I understand free tier waits, but you get a few moves a month?" (2 stars)
"I literally went through the text limit in 24 hrs. If you pay monthly you shouldn't have a limit." (2 stars, a paying subscriber)
"The game is amazing, but the cost is so expensive and predatory it's unsustainable." (1 star)
Three things make the cap sting more than a normal subscription:
- Glitched turns still cost a message. Players report attacks where the damage lands on their own character, an inventory that freezes, and a level-up that fails, and every retry burns another message. One reviewer: "npc glitches make you use more messages".
- The dice feel rigged. This is the second most common complaint after the cap, and it is worth quoting because it shows how the two interact: "it gives you the worst rolls possible even if you have advantages... they are doing it to make you use more of your messages so you buy more." We cannot verify the roll distribution. We can say that when a fail costs you money, every fail feels like a rip-off.
- Even the top tier has a ceiling. One five-star reviewer happily pays "55 a month". One two-star reviewer paid monthly and still hit the wall in a day. There is no unlimited option at any price.
Other recurring complaints
- Memory. "The AI loses the narrative constantly." A three-month character was lost after a processing error, and the player could not find where to report it.
- Out-of-character questions get ignored, so you cannot ask the DM to clarify a rule without spending a message on it.
- Class gate. "No magic user without paying money."
- Speed. "Really fun, but really slow."
To be fair to Endgame Studio: every one of these is a normal early-access problem, they say "early stage" on the store page, and the version number is 0.11. Our issue is not that the game has bugs. It is that the bugs are billed to the player.
Everweave vs ISEKAI ZERO, honestly
We are not the same game, so here is where we differ and where Everweave is better.
Everweave is a pure tabletop simulation: one DM, one character sheet, one open world, no pre-written adventures.
ISEKAI ZERO is an anime roleplay game: you get pulled into a storyline (isekai'd, literally) written by a creator, with AI characters who remember you, dice rolls where the story calls for them, and a visual novel mode that generates the scene as you play. There are thousands of storylines, most of them fantasy: waking up after a car crash in a world of monsters and guilds, being the Hero facing a council of Demon Lords, getting recruited back into your family's adventuring party after being kicked out. Creators earn a 25% profit share when players pay to play their worlds, so the good ones keep getting better.
| Everweave | ISEKAI ZERO | |
|---|---|---|
| Play style | Open-world AI DM, 5e-style sheet | Creator-written storylines, AI characters, dice when needed |
| Free tier | ~60 messages per month | Free option with daily Mana, plus ad top-ups |
| Paid model | Monthly message quotas, no rollover | Pay as you go: 100 Arcane = $1, roughly 1,000+ messages per dollar on the default model |
| Pricing transparency | Not published | Every credit's split is on our transparent pricing page |
| Visuals | Text only | Generated scenes in visual novel mode, character art, voices |
| Languages | English | 17 languages |
| Content | You improvise everything | Thousands of player-made storylines, plus create your own |
| Where Everweave wins | Stricter D&D mechanics, a single persistent open world, a DM that will run literally anything you type |
If you want a rules-heavy 5e sim and are happy to pay per message, Everweave is still the closer fit. If what you actually enjoyed was the story, and you ran out of messages before you ran out of story, start with one of these:
- Crash Into Another World: a routine drive ends in a crash and you wake up among magic, monsters and adventurers who would rather you were dead.
- Welcome to Our Party: kicked out and broke, your own family recruits you back into the adventuring life.
- Crash Into Conceding World: you are the Hero this time, and they are the Demon Lords.
- Another World Under Twin Moons: five princesses need to claim you to inherit the throne, one of the best-earning storylines on the platform.
Start free, no message quota to think about.
Other Everweave alternatives
We wrote a separate page ranking every credible option, free and paid: Games like Everweave (2026). The short list: AI Dungeon (the original, free tier, less rules structure), Friends & Fables (closest like-for-like 5e DM with campaigns and multiplayer), AI Game Master (mobile, simpler), and SillyTavern if you want to run it yourself, which we cover in our full SillyTavern setup guide.
Verdict
Everweave is a good idea shipped early and priced late. The AI DM is the real thing, and if the message economy were a flat subscription it would be an easy recommendation. As it stands, the free tier is a demo, the paid tiers still run out, and the bugs cost you money. Play it for the free 60 messages to feel what an AI DM can do. If you want to keep playing every day without watching a counter, that is the gap the rest of this genre, including us, exists to fill.
Ratings, prices and review quotes checked 13 September 2026. Everweave's plans and limits change often; if we have something wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
